This drama is about the idol group A.N.JELL, which consists of four members: Hwang Tae Kyung (lead singer), Kang Shin Woo (guitar), Jeremy (drums), and a new member Go Mi Nam (piano/vocal). However, the so-called Go Mi Nam is actually Go Mi Nyu, Mi Nam's twin sister, who was asked to step in for Mi Nam because he was recovering from his plastic surgery (LOL).
I really, really love this drama :)). The two leads, Jang Geun Suk and Park Shin Hye, did very well in all their scenes. The angst-y scenes were very powerful. Great actors!
Jang Geun Suk acts as Hwang Taekyung, the lead singer and leader of A.N.JELL, who, despite his seemingly perfect exterior (in terms of being a celebrity, that is; he has good looks and talent in music), is inherently imperfect. He has night blindness, is allergic to shrimps, a total clean and control freak, and I suspect he has a compulsive disorder. But those imperfections are endearing; they remind us that celebrities are normal human beings, just like us.
Personality-wise, he doesn't seem to be someone anyone would like -- he's arrogant, mean, glares at people, and pouts in a very not cute way.
However, he's actually a really good guy, who pretends he doesn't care, but fails badly at it (to the eyes of the viewers, anyway). And that, is what makes him likeable.
Not to mention that it's simply hilarious when the usually-calm-and-collected Taekyung does something totally out-of-character.
And he's actually a little kid at heart. He's cute when he smiles ^^. The first time he smiled was kinda freaky, though, 'cos it was so unexpected xD.
JANG GEUN SUK IS AN AWESOME ACTOR, PERIOD. Every one of his scenes are perfectly carried out, whether it's his tone, his facial expressions, or his body language. I think this role allowed him to show off his acting skills. I guess it's because it was the first time he took on the lead role in a drama?
Really well done :)). The way he cried in episode 8 was just heartbreaking ;___;. The other angst-y scenes are very well done too; like the one where he cried in episode 15, that was GREAT. He should get a Best Actor award! His voice and singing are good too :).
And Jang Geun Suk is just really good-looking, WHAT. (Jang Geun Suk has his own tag now, by the way ^^.)
Park Shin Hye took on the role of Mi Nyu/Mi Nam. She's a really innocent and naive girl, which would have been quite unrealistic, if not for her background of being a nun. She's very kind and strong. I think her looks alone can pass off as that of a guy, but really, it's absurd how no one can tell from her high-pitched voice that she is a female. And the way she behaved around Shin Woo, especially when she cried, was nothing like a guy :S. But I think it was meant to be that way, to remind us that she's a girl, haha. Mi Nyu is very cute xD.
Park Shin Hye's acting is very good, and she's great at crying scenes. I really felt for Mi Nyu when she was suppressing her feelings for Taekyung. And she's so pretty :)). Especially when she cries, lol xP.
The Tae Kyung/Mi Nyu couple is the OTP in this drama; the other pairings never stood a chance x). It's hilarious how Tae Kyung got jealous LOL. And he really cares for Mi Nyu :).
As with every k-drama, there's always the second guy; the nice guy who always looks out for the girl. In this case, Shin Woo is the one. He's very nice! He helped Mi Nyu get out of difficult situations which would have threatened to reveal her secret, and constantly took care of her. (
Fanvid) There were a few times where I disliked him a little, like when he didn't tell Mi Nyu the truth about him knowing about her identity all along. And I don't feel sorry for him as much as I think the audience should ^^;;. I like it when he pats Mi Nyu's head; very cute :3. (Reminds me of JiHoo doing that to JanDi. I like JiHoo a lot more, though xP.)
On a few occasions, I thought that Jung Yong Hwa's acting was lacking, especially in the earlier episodes where he was supposed to show Shin Woo's conflicting feelings. He got better in the later episodes though. His voice is nice :). And apparently he's the one who raps in
Promise! Wow ^^.
Lee Hongki acts as Jeremy, the
maknae of A.N.JELL. He's
totally hilarious! He's so bubbly and cheerful ^^. I love the way he calls his dog, Jolie, in that super high-pitched voice HAHA. He has tremendous love for parties and celebrations! And he has over-active imagination LOL.
Apparently he is very dense, so even when he started feeling and seeing weird things about Mi Nyu, he still didn't figure out that she's a girl. It's funny how in the beginning he struggled with his feelings, for as far as he knew Mi Nyu is a guy, but at the same time it's saddening; it must have been really painful for him.
Because of the weird feelings he was having, in the beginning he bullied Mi Nyu a little and was very suspicious of her, but he was very guilty because of that, haha.
And when he finally found out Mi Nyu was a girl, he actually kissed her on the forehead and went into euphoria! I totally LMAO-ed, HAHAHA! I SO love that kid x).
He may seem very much like a kid, but he really cares for Mi Nyu and his
hyungs. He's a good kid x). But I LOL-ed when he scolded his dearest Tae Kyung
hyung, "Stubborn butt-hole" HAHAHAHA. He's very honest with his feelings, which I like a lot. I'm really sorry, Tae Kyung, I like you a whole lot, but Jeremy is absolutely my favourite character from this drama xD.
I think Jeremy and Mi Nyu make very good BFFs ^^.
Hongki is so,
so ADORABLE :)). Jeremy has crazy/weird hairstyles, but it doesn't matter 'cos he's cute all the same xD. (In a way, it's a good thing that Jeremy didn't get to keep his beautiful hairstyle in the earlier episodes, otherwise I'd be too busy staring at him to watch the show xPP.)
And his eyes sparkle! :D I ain't gonna lie -- whenever Jeremy had any chance to sing, I'd re-watch the scene at least twice, grinning like a mad idiot at that xDD. His voice, is pure gold ♥♥♥♥♥. And he's really adorable; did I forget to mention that? His acting is great too! (I'm being
very objective, okay.) Never once did I feel that there was anything wrong/awkward with the way he acted Jeremy out. One can tell how Jeremy is feeling, just by looking at Hongki's expressions. I'm
so proud of Hongki :)). And I love how he was hugging everyone after the last filming; he's such a sweet kid :3.
I think he's super adorable when he's shocked 8D.

It's hilarious how they got a buff, tanned buy to act as the real Go Mi Nam's body, but with Park Shin Hye's face. But that
attitude is definitely a guy's; see, I knew she'd look fine as a guy :DD. I wanted to see more of him; that guy who supposedly "has Tae Kyung's charisma, Shin Woo's gentleness and Jeremy's brightness". And I wanted to see how he would interact with the rest of A.N.JELL! He liked Yoo He Yi; LOL how ironic hahaha. But I guess if we saw more of him we'd nitpick on the girly voice, etc, so maybe that's why he wasn't shown much ^^;;.
I like Manager Ma and President Ahn too! Manager Ma is hilarious; President Ahn is cool :D. Mo Hwa Ran is evil >:[. She drinks so much alcohol I bet she'd get liver failure one day. I knew all along that she was the one that was delusional the whole time LOL, but she's quite pitiful. Mi Nyu's aunt is annoying. Yoo He Yi is one of the villains so by principle I don't like her, but she's kinda dumb and hilarious, and I understand that she did everything because she liked Tae Kyung, so I don't hate her either x). UEE did very well! A.N.JELL fanclub is awesome, by the way :D.
Major complaint: there should have been more scenes that show how close the members of A.N.JELL are; after all they (the 3 original members) released what, 5 albums together. It kinda felt like the members all revolved around Mi Nyu, which shouldn't have been the case :/. Seriously, thank god for Jeremy! He's the one that at least tries to talk to and seem to adore all the members; otherwise there'd be a gaping hole between Tae Kyung and Shin Woo lol ^^;;. And they should have more chances to perform together! They only performed like twice :(. But at least we have a few scenes of the members caring for Mi Nyu :).
Favourite scenes:
1. The conversation Tae Kyung and Mi Nyu had under the stars in episode 7. The scriptwriters are awesome! Park Shin Hye did very well in that scene :).
2. Jeremy and Mi Nyu's day out in episode 8. Jeremy is sooo sweet!
3. Jeremy singing Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer in episode 9. (
here) I actually wondered since when that song has become that nice lol. I just have a severe Hongki's-voice-bias, WHAT. He only got to sing two lines, but it was so nice *sigh*. And Jeremy making pig's
oink sounds is just adorable x).
4. Mi Nyu hugging Tae Kyung and saying, "Thank you for being born," in episode 9.
5. The scene where Tae Kyung found out he liked Mi Nyu, and vice versa, in episode 12. I loved it when Tae Kyung mused to himself, "That's right. I want to deny it, but those words are correct. I was startled to see her in that state, angry that someone else was with her, and after seeing it, I.. felt pain. And feeling pain, I lose." Like I said, the scriptwriters awesome :).
6. Jeremy's bus scene in episode 14. (
WATCH!) My heart
ached for him when he cried after knowing that Mi Nyu liked Tae Kyung, while he sang the song, and again when he acted all fine when he got off the bus, and again when his smile faded for one second before he put it back on. Jeremy is awesome! I downloaded the audio rip of the song he sang, and seriously I almost cried 'cos he was really crying and it sounded so sad ;__;. Hongki did really, really well :)).
Most hilarious scenes:
1. The fantasies by various people! Seriously, they all have over-active imagination xD.
2. Tae Kyung swaying in the rice field and being chased by a pig in episode 7. I totally LMAO-ed, hahaha!
3. Tae Kyung performing "surgery" on pig and rabbit soft toys to make "pig-rabbit" in episode 9. TAEKYUNG YOU'RE SO WEIRD LOL.
4. The three A.N.JELL members acting out a fanfiction about a love triangle in episode 14. (
here) I had to hold my breath and cover my mouth so that I wouldn't burst out laughing HAHAHA. Fan-service FTW!
Behind-the-scenes pictures. I love how close the cast seems, especially Jang Geun Suk and Hongki; JGS has said a few times that he likes Hongki is a junior he likes a lot xD. And Jang Gun Suk and Park Shin Hye should just get together already :DD!
